Rose Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 24 Sep 1880 in Germany; immigrated to the US in 1881 with her mother; died 5 Mar 1940 in Emporium, Cameron, PA, and was buried 8 Mar 1940 in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, DuBois, Clearfield, PA.  Married Joseph Shivie 25 Apr 1896. Joseph Shivie was born about 1870 in Austria, and immigrated to the United States in 1886. According to census records, Joseph Shivie worked as a railroad laborer.  Joseph died 9 May 1924, and is buried in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, DuBois, Clearfield, PA.  Rose is also known as Rosella and Rozy in some documents.

Joseph and Rose had at least 6 children:

  • Mary Shivie, born 10 Feb 1897; married Percy Dixon.
  • Frances Shivie, born 10 Feb 1900, died 10 Dec 1990; married Luther Dixon.

Frank John Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 2 Oct 1882 in Baltimore, MD. Frank was in the army, and was stationed in New York City for three years. Frank married on 12 Feb 1908 Emma Weidenboerner, who was born in Pennsylvania 9 Feb 1874, and died 31 Dec 1938. Frank worked as a railroad laborer, and was an assistant foreman and a section foreman. Frank died of diabetes 1 May 1914 at Jay, Elk, PA at the age of 31, and was buried 4 May 1914 in DuBois, Clearfield, PA. After Frank’s death, Emma may have relocated to Troy, PA, as there is an Emma Golla listed in the 1920 census that was a housekeeper for the Catholic priest’s house in Troy. Frank and Emma, along with their son Francis, are buried in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in DuBois, PA.

Frank and Emma had 1 child:

  • Francis George Golla, born 23 Jul 1909; died 8 Nov 1918.

Joseph Peter Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 13 Jan 1886 in Dents Run, PA. Married Elizabeth Regulski (born abt 1885, died 1981) on 29 Oct 1908. Worked as a railroad section foreman. Joseph died 26 August 1975.

Note that census information indicates Joseph was born in Baltimore, MD. It is possible that the family didn’t move to Dents Run, PA after Joseph was born.

Helen Frances Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, born 25 Dec 1888 in Dents Run, PA. Also known as Elena, Ellie, or Ella. Married 1) Joseph Ralph Orsie (Orsimarsi) on 4 May 1904. Joseph Orsie died 9 Aug 1913. Helen married 2) John Ross Hawk on 16 Feb 1919. Before marrying John Hawk, Helen worked in a meat market, then as a store clerk. Helen died 6 May 1968 in Ridgeway, Elk, PA.

 

Joseph and Helen (Orsie) had 4 children:

Veronica Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 20 May 1891 in Dents Run, PA. Veronica, who also went by “Verona” or “Veronie”, was a twin with her sister Catherine. Veronica married on 7 May 1919 George Stojek, who was born abt 1890 in Poland, and who immigrated to the United States in 1912. George died of cancer when the children were young, and is buried in the Polish cemetery in DuBois, PA. Veronica died 9 Jan 1973 in Phoenix, AZ, and is buried in DuBois, PA.

A church window was donated to St. Michael the Archangel Polish church in DuBois, PA. This window is on the left side as you enter the church, and bears the name Weronika (Veronica) Golla. According to church history, construction of the church occurred between 1910 and May 1917. Veronica was the housekeeper and church organist for Fr. Edward Pawlikowski, and likely moved to DuBois with Fr. Pawlikowski in July 1916 shortly before the main portion of the church was complete.

George and Veronica had 5 children:

  • Frances Stojek, born 22 Mar 1920. Married William Kovach.
  • Joseph Stoyek, born 27 Nov 1922. Married Regina Madison.
  • Albert Stojek, born 22 Apr 1925. Married Frances Pape.
  • Edward Stoyek, born 19 May 1927. Married Rose Cekovsky.
  • Veronica Stojek, born about 1929 and died as an infant about 1929.

Note that some family members kept the original “Stojek” spelling of the last name, while others adopted the spelling “Stoyek”, based on the Polish pronounciation of the name.

Catherine Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 20 May 1891 in Dents Run, PA. Catherine, who also went by “Katie”, was a twin with her sister Veronica. She married Martin Lesneski, son of Frank and Dora Lesneski, on 26 Jan 1910 in Tyler, Clearfield, PA. Martin was born in Germany on 12 Nov 1886, and died following a mining accident on 21 Feb 1929 in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA. Catherine died 14 Oct 1939 in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA, and is buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA.

Martin and Catherine had 7 children:

  • Martin A Lesneski; born 4 Aug 1912; died 8 Mar 1941. Married Elizabeth Marie Smith.

John Patrick Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 17 Mar 1893 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA. John married Victoria Michvick (photo) (alternately Majchrzak or Maychrzah), daughter of Joseph and Stella (Kowalski) Majchrzak, on 15 May 1916. He died from kidney complications on 28 Oct 1950 in New Bethlehem, Clarion, PA, and is buried in Reynoldsville, Jefferson, PA.

John and Victoria had 6 children:
